A short snorter is a banknote which was signed by various people traveling together or meeting up at different events. It records who was met. The tradition spread from bush pilots in the Alaska Territory to military and commercial aviation. If you signed a short snorter and the collector could not produce it upon request, they owed you a dollar or a drink (a “short snort.”) Lee's collection included banknotes from various parts of Africa, France, Philippines, Japan, Canada, England, Italy, Spain, Algiers, India, Portugal, Brazil, Bermuda, Trinidad & Tobago, and Landsbanki Islands (Iceland).
I don't think his children knew it was anything but a collection of exotic money.
